Here is a report from our South African friends at Avion.

16 September saw the final round of the regional RCX Championship take place at Avion Raceway (the local JQ Products distributors) in South Africa. Morné Louw from Team Cuzi Racing had been competing with a Mugen MBX6R for most of the championship but was given the opportunity to change over to JQ products THECar (Yellow Edition) with the final round of the championship still to go. Changing to a new brand of car just before the need to defend a high placing position in a championship seems like a difficult decision for most but Morné felt he could learn how to drive THECar fast enough within two weeks to make this possible. And he did just that, proving that THECar is not at all as difficult to drive as various protagonists claim.

Conditions were for the most part difficult as rain during the week meant the track was more suitable for boat racing than buggy racing. By the second qualifying, and only his second competitive heat with THECar, Morné set the fastest lap for the day by anyone at that stage, proving that he had lost any of his speed coming from his Mugen – a brand well known for its ease of driving and stability. He went on to qualify 3rd overall and turned some very consistent laps during the main – a testament to the stability of the new Yellow Edition. Having just lost out on a second place in the race, behind fellow Team Cuzi Racing driver Warren van der Merwe driving a Mugen, Morné ended up in a very close third place behind Thomas Schmuck after some engine problems on the last lap. He did however secure his 2nd place in the regional 2012 Rcx Championship having scored the second highest amount of points for the day driving THECar against some of the top drivers in the country.
